Sight words are important to learn so that your student is ready to read and write.  Please work with them nightly



Things we are focused on in Kindergarten:


* Word Family practice for rhyming - Listen to ryhming words.

* Reading - Students are reading books that we read in class.

*      Writing – Practice how to write all letters in our first and last names.

* Math -Number recognition, number writing, shapes, graphing, count to 100 .

* Science - Properties of matter.

* Social Studies -  Manners at school and why we need rules.

* Holidays/Special Events - Pumpkins and Fall,  50th day of school, Fall Festival.

  
Helping Your Child at Home with reading:

* Read aloud to your child.  Listen to your child read a book from their book box!!

* Do shared reading.  You read a sentence.  Your child reads a sentence.

* Begin a story and have your child finish it.

* Play games on the refrigerator with magnetic letters and numbers.

* Have your child write letters and thank you notes to friends and relatives.

Homework: the homework/reading folder will come home nightly with activities that will help build a stronger student.  When they have mastered any of the objectives, still continue to review at least once a week.  Thank you!

           

Things to work on to help your student get ahead.
Use flash cards to learn the letters of the alphabet(both upper and lower case), and the sounds of the letters.
Practice writing Aa through Zz, use sounds when writing.  
Go over the sight words listed above, practice spelling them.  
Practice writing numbers 0 to 30 and count to 100.
Communicate with Mrs. Ashley-Wills daily.
